The fabulous track has almost a full view of sector 2 in Turn 11E. The fan experience, about an 8, was good for moving 120,000 race fans strategically, but the tactics were a bit flawed. Be prepared to WALK a lot if you take a shuttle to the race. "Invest" next time in close-in parking and a general admission ticket. It is about a mile from the shuttle drop off to the first gate. If you are on the other side of the track, there is another shuttle ride. I had a bleacher seat that was as far from the shuttle ride as you could get. Another mile walk. I waited about an hour for the shuttle to get to the pick-up point. And the people that got there first packed the line, and I had another hour wait before I got on the last shuttle. Three hours to home, and I live in Austin. Don't plan on getting to the airport unless you leave real early. Staff was fantastic. But there was a lack of co-ordination between the shuttle (the one around the track) and reality. The wait to get around the track was ridiculous. Busses would show up packed to the gills. When you got on them, you would wait minutes with no one getting on or off. The exterior traffic was not stacked up, certainly not the "12 hours" haters had predicted for getting in/out.
Overall, for the first race, this was a HIT! With more road improvements in the next few months, the in/out will be better.
If the "powers that be" read this, I would recommend:
Organize the disabled/elderly/old transport. Designate shuttles at the end of the race to certain gates. And/or get more of them, restrict personal vehicles/vendor vehicles off the pavement. Figure out WHAT Gate 1 is supposed to do. We spent 20 minutes waiting for the buses in front of us to move. Never found out what they were waiting on.
Better line organization. When the crowd left, porta-jons were at the END of trek. You had to walk 1/2 a mile and then turn around and find which line you were supposed to be in. There needs to be line restrictions and DIRECTIONS where the parking lots by the track end. Don't rely on a few volunteers driving helter-skelter with disabled to point out the lines for downtown, expo center, and airport. Several people about to start a fight, none of whom could speak the same language, over line cutting. No police/ems/volunteers in sight.
